There are many brilliant woodwind instruments for sale here at Hogan Music, with instruments here that will interest everyone, from the beginner to the expert. The woodwind instrument is part of the larger family of wind instruments. What marks out the woodwind instrument is in the way it produces its sound. It does this by splitting an exhaled air stream with a sharp edge, most often presented by the reed. Flutes are slightly different in that they do not use a reed to split the air stream, but rather use the sharp edge of the duct which creates the air channel.
Flutes
You will be happy to know that we do indeed have flutes in our collection of woodwind instruments. A reedless woodwind instrument, flutes are amazingly the earliest extant music instrument. They could go as far back as 43,000 years old, but we suggest that you are better off going with a brand new one, such as those we have in store here!
Clarinets
The clarinet is a woodwind instrument with a single reed mouthpiece, and it stems from music being written by the likes of Bach and Handel which would test the higher bounds of what a trumpet could offer. Thus arose the term 'clarion' to describe this high, melodic register. It is also why these instruments were initially called 'mock trumpets'! Thankfully, they have now more than earned an identity in their own right, and we have some super examples of these clarinet instruments here at Hogan Music.
Saxophones
You are also in the right place if you are on the hunt for some high quality saxophones. Take a look through our collection and you will be able to see that we have some brilliant alto, soprano and tenor saxophones to choose from.

Since the 'A' clarinet possesses a deep, sonorous sound, it is used for quiet pieces, whilst the 'Bb' clar…

Straight Soprano Sax vs Curved Soprano Sax Obviously the first difference is in the look. Some people may prefer the look of one over the other, but the aesthetic difference also contributes to the feel and sound. It’s often said that from the players perspective the curved model gives a more immediate ‘feedback’. This is due to the bell projecting some of the sound back towards you. It depends on…
